2005 | Gilead Retirement Village
The design concept was to create a resort-style fully accessible village of 1200 self and assisted care dwellings within the spectacularly beautiful natural environment adjoining rural land at Gilead.
Large areas of the site have been maintained as natural bushland with development limited by the encircling gabion wall. All current ESD principles will be incorporated into the development of this village.
The main road provides a strong spine which traverses the topography of the hillside offering easy access to all dwellings. Residents can take advantage of views from intimate plazas and platforms around the hill. Communal facilities, shops, offices and services flank the central piazza. The human scale of the public spaces encourages social interaction, and all areas of the site are walkable. A step forward.
