Young + Metcalf was established in 1987. The directors, Royden Metcalf and Christine Young bring experience and enthusiasm to each new project including masterplanning, residential and aged care design. The practice is focused on our clients and how to best answer their requirements.

Our philosophy is to provide innovative approaches, melding practical contemporary solutions with the joy of architecture. The experience of space, light and colour is foremost in our designs.

We can provide professional service in all aspects of a project , using in-house expertise or by forming a project team of relevant specialists. Individual attention by the partners is assured at all stages.

Graduating from UNSW in 1978, Chris has worked both in Europe and with several Sydney-based practices, including three leading aged care specialist firms. She has been involved in several RAIA committees and is a founding member of Constructive Women.

Chris’s expertise in SEPP(5)/(SL) has been used successfully in Land and Environment Court applications and as an expert witness. Chris particularly enjoys the challenge of strategic planning and adaptive re-use projects.

 



Royden graduated from Victoria University, Wellington. He came to Australia from New Zealand in 1980 and has worked for leading aged care and resort architectural practices.

As well as extensive experience in aged care design, Royden has expertise in computer systems, documentation and building procurement utilizing leading edge 3D modeling software. Royden also has a strong knowledge of contract administration and project management.
